The sharpest minds in post-secondary Business programs from all across the province are about to go head to head. The Alberta Deans of Business Case Competition annual event starts at 8:00 a.m. Friday, March 15th at the NAIT campus in Edmonton. All 14 teams are given a business case, confined to a war room, and by 6:00 p.m. must have completed the analysis and business plan. Saturday morning the groups present to a panel of judges for prestige, and prize money.

The five team members from Portage College are ready! They have been preparing for months working through mock cases that test their abilities in financial accounting, operation management, and even marketing a business. This event they will be asked to develop beneficial solutions for real-world business problems.
"This is one of the most challenging but rewarding projects I've ever been a part of!". Nicole McIntosh is a second year Business Administration student at Portage College. She and fellow teammate Matt Belanger competed last year. By sharing their experience, they're helping to prepare the three rookies on the team: Natasha Geleta, Tanis Castle, and Diquita Cardinal.
Diquita is grateful for the insight, "It's been great learning about Nicole and Matt's experience. And since I'm in my first year of Business Administration, it's given me a preview of what to expect in my second year."
All Alberta post-secondary institutions are eligible to participate and the competition is fierce. Rules allow the teams a one-time consult with faculty from their institution. Portage College Business Administration Coordinator Val Lyons and Instructor Allan Robertson can only advise the students on their presentation.
