March Events Cancelled due to COVID-19 Risk
March 10, 2020

Due to the recent COVID-19 global outbreak, Portage College is cancelling and postponing major events this month. The St. Paul International Street Foods Culinary Adventure (March 13) and the Lac La Biche 17th Annual Round Dance (March 14) have been cancelled. The Student Scholarship Fundraising Dinner (March 28) is postponed until further notice.

Portage College event organizers have assessed the risk for each event using the risk assessment tool from the Government of Canada Health website.

“We felt the need to follow the recommendations from the Government of Canada on COVID-19,” said Nancy Broadbent, President and CEO of Portage College. “Mass gatherings are identified as high risk. We used the tool to review our upcoming events to ensure we protect our community members.”

The tickets for the St. Paul International Street Foods Culinary Adventure will be refunded. Please call Nicole Pshyk at (780) 614-6340.

Tickets for the Student Scholarship Fundraising Dinner will be refunded. Please contact Rick Flumian at 780-623-5591 or by cell at 780-404-3405 for more information.

“It is very disheartening to announce the cancellation and postponement of these events, however our health as individuals needs to remain the primary focus,” added Broadbent.
