The GED Advantage
May 16, 2017

Did you know you don't need a high school diploma to apply for post-secondary, gain employment or to line you up for that promotion you deserve?

Many employers, including the Canadian Armed Forces require applicants to have their GED to meet basic eligibility. It makes sense to make yourself more marketable when the current job market is so competitive.

Donna Feledichuk, Associate Dean, Faculty of Education & Cultural Arts said "Gaining the GED removes some barriers for adults who wish to find a better job or enter certain training programs. It can boost self-confidence and leads to a realization that further post-secondary education is within their reach." Feledichuk went on to say "It's wise to check with individual post-secondary institutions to find out if the GED is an acceptable pre-requisite in lieu of academic credit courses."

Portage College has been a test centre for GED for several years. The exams are scheduled throughout the year and are usually scheduled on a Saturday for convenience. A study guide is available for purchase at the college bookstore. For more information about the GED click here.

We acknowledge that Portage College’s service region is on the traditional lands of First Nation Peoples, the owners of Treaty 6, 8 and 10, which are also homelands to the Métis people. We honour the history and culture of all people who first lived and gathered in these lands.
