Students are hosting an International Street Foods Culinary Adventure
March 9, 2020

Portage College’s Culinary Arts students are inviting the public to come and travel the world – without leaving the comforts of Northeastern Alberta.

The students are hosting an International Street Foods Culinary Adventure on March 13 from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. at the Event Centre in the College’s St. Paul campus. This event will provide an opportunity for guests to savour various foods from a variety of countries including Peru, Greece, Japan, and Austria.

“This promises to be an exciting evening, full of delectable delights from around the globe,” said Jason Sachko, Red Seal Chef and Food Sciences Coordinator at Portage College. “You don’t want to miss this. Your taste buds will thank you!”

The Culinary students will be preparing and plating their international delicacies from action stations located throughout the Event Centre. This setting not only provides an opportunity for guests to watch students prepare food, it also allows guests to interact with the students and their Chef Instructors.

Sachko explained how the evening will unfold. “When you purchase a ticket for $60, you will receive 10 tickets which will give you the opportunity to visit all nine action stations with another ticket for seconds,” he said. “And, if you truly enjoy one of the stations, we will be selling additional tickets during the event so that you can go back and enjoy your favorite station once again!”

There will also be some awesome prizes up for grabs at the event. If guests get all nine countries stamped on their passports, they can put their name in for a draw for a chance to win two tickets to the upcoming East Coast Seafood Night in April, or a BBQ, a patio set, and more!

The International Street Foods Culinary Adventure is just one of several events the students are staging this year. The purpose is to enhance the learning experience of students as well as to provide a chance for them to apply their skills under the guidance of Portage’s Chef Instructors.

“We are so grateful for the support from the communities,” said Sachko. “Our students are hungry to taste success and these events are providing them with the real world experiences that they need to help fulfill their culinary dreams."
