Dr. Stephen Price became the eighth president in the 57-year history of Portage College in October 2025.
Holding a PhD from the University of Calgary, a MEd from the University of Victoria, and a BEd from the University of Alberta, Steve has spent the last 25 years working in several leadership roles at Mount Royal University in Calgary. He spent the last eight years at MRU as Dean of the Faculty of Health, Community and Education.
Recognized for his inclusive leadership and a people-first focus, Price says the success and care of students and employees are the core of his leadership philosophy. As an accomplished academic leader, Price has a distinguished record in strategic planning, faculty development, and community partnerships.
Steve is committed to engaging with faculty, staff, and students to gain a deeper appreciation of their insights, experiences, and ambitions. He also looks forward to developing meaningful relationships with leaders and members of the seven campus communities, alongside others throughout northeastern Alberta. He is very interested in meeting with Elders, knowledge keepers, and other members of the multiple First Nation and Métis communities in the Portage College service area. He will also work in close partnership with the Board of Governors and the senior leadership team to ensure steady progress on the College’s 2030 strategic priorities.
Steve and his wife Susan have three boys, Dawson, Ethan and Harrison.
