This Privacy Policy outlines the way Portage College collects, uses, maintains and discloses information collected from users ("User" or "Users") and includes this website, ("The Site").  We cannot be held liable for the privacy practices of other websites.

When using we are committed to protecting your privacy at all times. Portage College has implemented all reasonable controls to make sure that your information stays safe, however, we cannot guarantee the complete security of stored information. This privacy policy applies to information collected through our website and does include information collected offline.


Personal information is the information we have that relates to you, our customer, as an individual. Personal information, beyond your name and contact information may include any or all of the following: a record of your purchases and payment method, alternate contact information and your account number.

When you visit The Site we automatically log your IP address, browser type, access time, click path and other information used to conduct website evaluations, to monitor our website and visitor traffic, to provide you with tailored advertising based on your interests or based on your visit to our website, and to keep track of other online usage data such as click paths and the websites visited immediately before and after using The Site.  The Site uses cookies to track this data.  Cookies are small files stored on your computer's hard drive which identify your web browser and IP address when you enter our website.  We do not use cookies to retrieve data from your hard drive or to obtain your e-mail address or other personal information.  If you have your cookies turned off in your web browser, The Site will not identify your IP address, however, this may limit the functionality you can receive when visiting The Site.

Log files such as those described in the above paragraph, are not tied to personally identifiable information and we will not use this data to identify personal information through other third parties. We do not collect personal information such as names, ages, phone numbers, addresses or e-mail addresses from visitors to The Site. Any aggregate statistical information not tied to a person would not be considered personal information.


Any information that we collect is used for the purposes of administering The Site, to personalize your web experience, to respond to your contact requests, to improve our website, to analyze The Site statistics and usage, and to provide you with tailored marketing and advertising.  We do use personal information collected offline to serve our customers with the right materials at the right levels, delivered to the right address, and to ensure that the financial relationship is correct and current, we need to have certain basic personal information on file.

The Site uses trusted third-party marketing agencies and vendor re-marketing tracking cookies, web beacons, and other storage technologies to collect or receive information from The Site and elsewhere on the internet.  This includes the Google Adwords tracking cookie, Facebook Pixel retargeting code, and Twitter Custom Audiences and Conversion Tracking. By using these third-party services, we are able to show ads, including social media ads, based on a Users' interests, previous visit to our website, or based on specific actions Users have taken on The Site. This allows us to advertise The Site to those who have shown interest or based on other aggregate demographic or behavioural data.  Any data that is collected will not be intentionally tied to personally identifiable information and will be used in accordance with our own privacy policy and third party privacy policies.

We will remove or destroy personal information when it is no longer relevant for the uses for which it was gathered. We will not retain personal information indefinitely.   Generally a name is retained for two years after it has become inactive. Files are then destroyed or deleted, except for those on data tapes and financial records, which, in accordance with the law, have to be archived for seven years. Archived information is not accessed or used for operational or marketing purposes.

We will not use your personal information for any purposes, other than those outlined in this privacy policy, unless we have asked your permission and have received your consent.


Users who wish to opt-out of receiving interest-based ads can visit and also have the following options:

We will delete your name from our mailing list following the receipt of your request by letter, fax, email or phone.


Everyone at Portage College takes your privacy and information very seriously.  We do share aggregate information about your use of our site with internal stakeholders and with our trusted social media, marketing, advertising, web hosting and analytics partners.  

All personal information is kept confidential and we have implemented safeguards to protect information whether in print, electronic or any other form.  Our employees are obliged to abide by the FOIP Act and College policies, guidelines, and procedures relating to the proper use of personal information.

We will make available, upon request, personal information we have on file, when the owner of that information has made an explicit request to access that information and we will correct, amend or delete information at your request, and if legally entitled to do so.

We will not share, sell, trade or otherwise transfer to outside parties your personally identifiable information. This does not include trusted third parties who provide services to us in the operation of our website, who assist us in conducting our business, who provide us with marketing services and/or technologies, or assist us in servicing you, so long as these third parties agree to keep all information confidential. From time to time we may send information to third parties such as printers, marketing agencies, or mailing houses. These companies are required to sign a commitment to respect our privacy policy and to utilize the lists only for the purposes we specify and not make any copies of the files. This also does not include information shared when a legal obligation exists, such as in the case of judicial and/or court proceedings.


By using The Site, Users are consenting to the terms contained in this privacy policy.

We must obtain the consent of anyone whose name may be retained in our records to receive products or information. The customer can at any time withdraw consent to receive further information or products. We will then remove the customer's name as quickly as possible.  If you do not consent to the terms of the policy as it applies to the website, please stop using the website.

From time to time we may acquire from outside companies lists of customers who have consented to receive information. It may sometimes occur that a name that we have deleted on request from our files may appear on one of the lists we have acquired. In such a case the customer may request another deletion.


To ensure a high level of customer service, our customer service calls are monitored on an ongoing basis for training purposes only. We do this to ensure the highest level of service to our customers and to enable our staff to improve their skills through practical mentoring and coaching.


All information held by us is subject to strict internal security to prevent unauthorized access and improper usage. Electronic records are subject to limited access by authorized personnel who must use passwords and other security measures. Print records of personal information are subject to physical protection such as locked rooms or cabinets, accessible only to authorized personnel.


If we make changes to this privacy policy, we will post changes on this page and/or update the modification date below.

By continuing to access The Site after those revisions become effective, you agree to be bound by the revised Privacy Policy. If you do not agree to the new terms, please stop using the Site. This privacy policy was last updated on December 7th, 2016.
