Portage College is actively seeking a Community Adult Learning Program (CALP) Instructor to implement community adult learning programming reflective of both the needs of the community and participants enrolled in the program. The primary responsibilities of the CALP Instructor are to strengthen foundational adult skills in an environment that supports and fosters growth and self-confidence and to enhance community-based partnerships that support the development of literacy, numeracy, and foundational skills. The successful candidate will provide instruction at the Saddle Lake campus on a part-time basis, working two days per week.

Responsibilities include:

  • Develop and deliver literacy, numeracy and foundational skill-related activities, including workshops and courses that strengthen abilities and provide adults with confidence and a bridge to academic upgrading in their commu­nity.
  • Liaise with community organizations/agencies and other government and not-for-profit agencies to increase aware­ness of CALP, but also to learn about other programs/training in area.
  • Attend interagency meetings, career days and other community events; Assist in planning and hosting events.
  • Ongoing training and research to increase knowledge of program and to ensure a successful Community Adult Learn­ing Program.


QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor of Education degree is preferred. Applicants with a diploma or certificate as an Education Assistant or in the Human Services field may be considered.
  • Preference will be given to applicants with previous experience successfully working with adults in academic upgrad­ing or literacy programs.
  • Applicants should have a friendly personality that is consistent and builds trust with learners and staff.
  • Knowledge of Indigenous culture and ideally previous experience working in Indigenous communities.
  • A thorough understanding of adult learning.
  • Self-motivation to learn, to be flexible, and to be open to constructive feedback.
  • A strong ability to network.
  • Successful applicant will be required to complete mandatory training relating to the Community Adult Learning Pro­gram.
  • Strong computer skills, specifically with MS Office Suite.
  • Willingness to travel.
  • Successful applicant will be required to provide a current vulnerable sector police information check.
