National Indigenous Disabilities Awareness Month
Tuesday, October 1, 2024 - Thursday, October 31, 2024

Indigenous Peoples of Canada experience a disability rate significantly higher than that of the general population. Indigenous Disability Awareness Month brings awareness of these barriers and the issues that Indigenous peoples living with disabilities and their families face every day. More importantly though, despite these barriers, IDAM celebrates the achievements of Indigenous peoples living with disabilities and recognize the significant and valuable contributions they make to our communities socially, economically, and culturally every day.

We acknowledge that Portage College’s service region is on the traditional lands of First Nation Peoples, the owners of Treaty 6, 8 and 10, which are also homelands to the Métis people. We honour the history and culture of all people who first lived and gathered in these lands.
