Portage College Builds Partnership with Canadian Armed Forces
September 6, 2024

Portage College is thrilled to announce a new partnership with the Canadian Armed Forces to offer tailored support and resources to Canadian Armed Forces veterans seeking to further their education and transition into civilian careers. This collaboration marks a significant milestone for the College and the members who served as it provides an easier route to access education.

The college's business program, which has already attracted many military students, will be newly improved to meet the educational and professional needs of these individuals.

Veterans will be provided access to specialized programs and services that recognize and build upon their military-acquired skills in communication, accounting, finance, and leadership. By leveraging the expertise and discipline of military training, the college aims to facilitate a smoother transition for veterans into the academic environment and support their career development in the civilian sector. By doing so, Portage College can grant advanced credit for the skills and knowledge acquired while serving in the military, ensuring their prior learning is recognized and valued.

Allan Robertson, Business Program Coordinator at Portage College, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership, stating, “We are excited to partner with the Canadian Armed Forces and enhance our support for military members. Their diverse perspectives have long enriched our business program, and this partnership enables us to recognize and integrate the valuable training they receive during their service. We extend our thanks to the military members for their service and welcome them to Portage College.”

The initial phase of the partnership will focus on the business department, along with student services and advisors, to develop a comprehensive list of eligible courses and program details. This collaboration underscores Portage College's commitment to providing meaningful educational opportunities and support to those who have served our country.
