ABOUT THE POSITION
Portage College is actively hiring a Success Coach to work alongside the learning facilitator to provide interpersonal/intrapersonal supports to bolster the foundational learning program. The primary responsibilities of the Success Coach are to strengthen foundational adult skills in an environment that supports and fosters growth and self-confidence. Responsibilities also include:
- Coordinate with community to identify student successes and barriers, as well as relay pertinent information regarding student attendance and progress.
- Work with facilitator to identify and assist students academic/learning.
- Empower participant’s ability to maintain and manage student life while overcoming barriers.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date case notes and statistics.
- Develop specific strategies to work with students in non-counselling activities (e.g. stress management and relaxation techniques).
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
- Degree or diploma in social sciences. Equivalencies may be considered.
- Minimum of one-year mental health experience with high-risk populations.
- Preferred certification in Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST), Non-violent Crisis Intervention and Mental Health First Aid.
- Preference will be given to applicants with previous experience successfully working with adults in academic upgrading or literacy programs.
- Applicants should have a congenial personality that is consistent and builds trust with learners and staff.
- Knowledge of Indigenous culture and ideally previous experience working in Indigenous communities.
- A strong ability to network.
- Successful applicant will be required to provide a current police information check.
