Healthier Communities golf fundraiser benefits Portage College students and residents in Lac La Biche County

The numbers are in…and they’re very healthy.

The Healthier Communities Golf Tournament that was co-hosted in July by Lac La Biche County, Portage College and the Lac La Biche Regional Health Foundation raised more than $45,000. The proceeds will be split equally between Portage College and the Lac La Biche Regional Health.

Held since 2015, the fundraising day on the fairways at the Lac La Biche Golf & Country Club raises money and awareness for health initiatives in the community. Funds have been used in the past to enhance equipment and training opportunities for students in the Nursing and Pre-Hospital Care programs at Portage College. Funds have also gone towards securing diagnostic equipment and providing wellness education programming within the local healthcare region.

“Once again, we thank the community for its support, and we are thankful for the fantastic partnership with Lac La Biche County and the Lac La Biche Health Foundation,” says Portage College President and CEO Nancy Broadbent. “It just shows how much can be done when we work together for the well-being of those around us.”

The Lac La Biche Regional Health Foundation is a not-for-profit organization raising funds for medical equipment and enhanced healthcare in the Lac La Biche region. The foundation was created with the support of Alberta Health Services in 2015 and operates under the direction of a volunteer board of community members. The foundation, through partnerships like the ones with Portage College and Lac La Biche County, has been integral in raising funds, awareness and support for local acquisitions at William J. Cadzow – Lac La Biche Healthcare Centre, including a CT scanner diagnostic suite and the dialysis unit.

The annual golf tournament features games, raffles, refreshments and prizes.
