Portage College is excited to once again join the forest of community fundraising taking place this weekend at the Festival of Trees in Lac La Biche’s Bold Centre.
Running from Nov. 20 to 23, the annual event fills the Bold Centre with the sights and sounds of the season, including markets, music, children’s events, art displays, photos with Santa, and the tree raffle. This year, there are 60 decorated trees donated to the raffle by businesses and organizations across the region. Not only do the sparkly trees have lights, tinsel and decorations, but many have added festive finds, like gift certificates and merchandise.
The Portage College tree was decorated with a sports theme by volunteer College employees this year. The tree features sports equipment, Portage Voyageurs clothing, and a $750 voucher for Continuing Education courses.
Each year the Festival of Trees raises money for local charities and groups. In 2024, the raffle raised $66,000. The funds were distributed to 44 local groups.
Entrance to the Festival of Trees is free. Food and clothing donation boxes will be on site. Raffle tickets are one dollar or $20 for a book of 20. The tickets have been selling all month, so even though there were more than 80,000 printed … supplies are limited.
