Program – Driver Training: Air Brakes

The course covers classroom instruction and practical training. Students are evaluated through a practical skills test administered by our instructor. After completing and passing the assessment students can then write the provincial knowledge test. Who needs a “Q” endorsement? Air brake Q endorsement is required for drivers of vehicles with:

• an air-only braking system, or
• a combination of air and hydraulic braking system

Some topics covered over the course of the program include:

• Braking fundamentals
• Fundamentals of compressed air
• Vehicle braking systems and operations
• Foundation brakes and brake adjustment
• Brake system inspection
• Long downhill grades/bobtailing
