Before making a formal request, we encourage you to contact the department you believe has the information you are seeking and ask them if they can provide you with the information. In support of openness, transparency and public access to records, the College regularly provides information to the public on an informal basis by means of routine disclosure.
If the information can be routinely disclosed, a formal access to information request is not required.
Examples of routine disclosure include:
- When the information being requested belongs to the person making the request
- General information, such as a public report
- Information that contains no persona information
- Information already in the public
Formal Access to Information Request
A formal access to information request is usually required as a last resort when:
- The request is complex or broad
- The records contain sensitive or personal information
- There are legal considerations, and
- A third-party’s interests are involved
Complete an Access to Information Request Form and send it to privacy@portagecollege.ca. The College’s Privacy Office will review your request and send you an acknowledgement letter to confirm receipt of your request.
If you are not satisfied with the College’s response, or do not receive a response, you may request a review of the matter by the Alberta Office of Information and Privacy Commissioner (OIPC).
