  • Priority given to Indigenous female students, second priority to female students, third priority would be Indigenous students (attach proof of Indigenous ancestry)

  • If multiple students in any given year fit the above criteria, consideration is given to students demonstrating the highest financial need and local to the Lac La Biche community area

  • Must be an Alberta resident
  • Must be registered full-time in a post-secondary program: undergraduate, professional, graduate, apprenticeship, diploma or certificate program at a publicly-funded post-secondary institution in Alberta in the current academic year
  • Must have shown outstanding leadership, especially in the area of disability, and/or initiative to improve the lives of other people while attending a publicly-funded post-secondary institution in Alberta
  • Must have satisfactory progress and attendance as confirmed by program area
  • Must provide a resume highlighting your leadership involvement and extra-curricular activities related to improving the lives of other people
  • Must submit a related letter of reference
  • Must submit an essay of up to a maximum of 1,000 words -please refer to page 2 of the application for details

Criteria:

  • Registered full-time in any certificate, diploma or undergraduate program at Portage College
  • Be a citizen of the Otipemisiwak Métis Government (OMG) and a confirmed registered member of the Otipemisiwak Métis Student Association (OMSA).
  • Must provide a letter outlining how you are currently engaged with or have made meaningful contribution to the Otipemisiwak Métis community.
  • Demonstrate financial need — must complete section C on awards application
  • Must have achieved a grade point average of 2.0 or better in the immediate previous semester at Portage College (preference will be given to applicants with higher GPAs)
  • Must be a Canadian Citizen
  • Must be an Alberta resident (provide proof of Alberta residency)
  • An applicant acknowledges that priority will be given to Citizens who have never received funding from Rupertsland Institute or the Métis Education Foundation
  • The applicant must declare that their name will not appear on the Government of Canada’s Indian Registry, nor a Band list pursuant to the Indian Act, and is neither Inuk, nor non-Status Indian,
  • The applicant must declare all sources of student funding that the applicant is receiving from a Métis Government or organization, including: the Métis Nation Saskatchewan, Métis Nation of Ontario, Manitoba Métis Federation, Métis Nation of British Columbia, Northwest Territory Métis Nation or Alberta Métis Settlements.

  • Must provide an additional monthly budget breakdown documenting the additional expenses to be incurred while on a field placement (complete practicum section on application)

Note: Students on a paid practicum do not qualify.
