The Portage College Athletic Association (PCAA) is teaming up with the College to raise funds for an Indigenous Cultural Space at the Lac La Biche Campus. Starting this Friday, the association is holding an online raffle to raise funds to help build a space where students, staff and community members can participate in spiritual and cultural events. Raffle prizes include a patio set, a camping set and a 55-inch TV.
The College received funding in September 2020 from the Canada Infrastructure Plan which will cover 40% of eligible project costs. The raffle is intended to help cover some of the other costs such as equipment, furniture and supplies for the space.
“The Portage College Athletics Association is excited to partner with the College to help raise funds for the Indigenous Cultural space at the Lac La Biche Campus. Many of our athletes come from First Nations, Métis and Inuit heritage, and giving them a space where they can practice cultural and spiritual beliefs is something that will benefit all Portage students,” said PCAA President Les Cote.
This project is keeping with Portage’s strong history and working with the First Nations and Métis people in our area. The cultural space will benefit students and staff for years to come,” added Nancy Broadbent, President and CEO of Portage College. “We are very grateful for the community and government support for this initiative and to the PCAA for organizing the raffle.”
