Each of the graduating students in the 2025 Portage College Practical Nurse Diploma program has passed the Canadian Practical Nurse Registration Examination (CPNRE).
The CPNRE is a demanding national assessment for practical nurses to deliver safe and effective care. The 100 per cent pass rate reflects not only the students’ dedication, but also the guidance and mentorship offered by the faculty and program leaders, says Andrea Salzl, the Practical Nurse program coordinator at Portage College.
“I am incredibly proud of our Practical Nurse students. This accomplishment reflects the dedication and hard work students invested throughout the program,” Salzl mentioned.
The accomplishment not only reflects the exceptional dedication of the students, but also the strength of the program’s academic and clinical training, stated Dr. Shun Li, the Dean of Health and Wellness at Portage College. Dr. Li stated the result distinguishes the students and the program as top performers in the province.
“This outstanding accomplishment is a testament to the superior quality of our academic instruction and the unwavering dedication, expertise, and professionalism of our nursing faculty,” he stated
Career choice
The success of the program’s most recent graduating class also helps to draw more new students to the program, and more importantly, toward a career in the dynamic healthcare industry.
“It gives our students confidence, knowing they are in a program with some of the strongest prospects for success on the registration exam in Alberta,” said Li.
As the graduates begin their professional careers, Portage College celebrates their success and looks forward to the positive impact they will have in healthcare settings across Alberta.
“This is an exciting achievement, and I look forward to seeing the positive impact they will have in their communities and within the nursing profession, says Salzl.
Through a combination of classroom learning, simulation labs, and clinical placements, Portage College students develop the confidence and competence required to meet the evolving needs of Alberta’s healthcare system and make a meaningful impact in their communities.
