Portage College to Hold In-Person and Virtual Convocation Ceremony on June 2, 2023
June 1, 2023

Lac La Biche, AB - June 1, 2023 - Portage College is thrilled to announce its first-ever combined in-person and live stream Convocation Ceremony, celebrating the academic achievements of its graduating students. The event will take place on June 2, 2023, at the Lac La Biche Campus.

“After the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, Portage College is delighted to welcome students and their families to celebrate this special occasion together in-person,” said Nancy Broadbent, President and CEO of Portage College “The convocation ceremony is an opportunity to honour the hard work and dedication of the graduating students, marking an important milestone in their educational journey.”

Those unable to join in person will be able to participate in the ceremony from the comforts of their homes anywhere in the world via live stream.

“We have gained experiential teachings from the last few years of hosting Convocation virtually,” said Broadbent. "Being able to share this experience with loved ones, near or far, contributes to our vision to empower students to transform and make a difference.”

The day will include morning and afternoon convocation ceremonies, an awards ceremony, and a pinning ceremony for Practical Nursing students.

In addition, the Honour Ceremony will be returning to our in-person celebrations. A long-standing tradition since 2003, graduates will receive a Métis sash or a symbolic eagle feather, blessed by an elder. This ceremony acknowledges students for successfully completing their schooling. All Portage College graduate students attending Convocation are invited to participate.

"We are excited to celebrate the achievements of our graduating students and look forward to seeing them contribute their knowledge and skills to their respective fields," said Broadbent. "Our graduates have worked hard to reach this milestone, and we are proud to honour them at this convocation ceremony."
