Portage College is thrilled to announce the launch of its new Computer Programming and Information Technology Diploma. Building on the success of our existing Computer Programming and Information Technology Certificate program, this diploma will offer students enhanced opportunities to acquire cutting-edge skills essential for careers in Computer Sciences.
The Computer Programming and Information Technology Diploma is designed for those seeking to deepen their expertise and stay ahead in the field. Students will expand upon the foundational skills gained in the certificate program and gain the flexibility to transition into degree programs. The diploma program includes courses in Agile Methodology, User Interfaces, and Cloud Technology. Additionally, it introduces two courses unique to Portage College: Cybersecurity and Artificial Intelligence. These two courses will give students extra knowledge and get them ahead of technology.
A highlight of the diploma program is the opportunity for students to engage in a work placement, allowing them to apply their knowledge and develop practical skills in real-world settings. This hands-on experience is designed to prepare students for successful careers in a variety of roles such as but not limited to Computer Programmer, Web Designer/Web Developer, Software Support Analyst, and IT Business Analyst.
"As technology becomes increasingly integral to our lives, the need for skilled IT professionals in rural Alberta is more important than ever. Portage College is thrilled to expand our program to the diploma level. I am excited to see the positive changes this will bring to our communities” stated Nancy Broadbent, President and CEO of Portage College.
Portage College is proud to offer this advanced program locally, responding to the growing interest and demand for Computer Science education in our region over the past five years. With this new diploma, students can receive high-quality training without leaving the area.
"We are pleased to announce that students will now have the opportunity to pursue two years of Computer Science education locally. Our region has experienced a noteworthy increase in demand for this training, as demonstrated by the rising enrolments in the Computer Programming and Information Technology Certificate program currently offered at Portage College” said Stephanie Solarz, Dean of Foundational Learning, University Transfer and Arts.
