Hey community! You’re invited to the Voyageurs’ Watch Party Weekend

If you really want something to yell about then join our watch party weekend in the gymnasium of the Lac La Biche campus Family themed watch parties start Friday night at 630 pm

A big screen TV, lots of fun and games, concessions, a family-friendly environment – and the chance to cheer on the Portage College Voyageurs as they take on the Red Deer Polytechnic Kings in the semifinals of the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference men’s hockey championships.

Yep – it’s a watch party weekend at Portage College – and the whole community is invited to help us celebrate.

The Voyageurs are in the ACAC playoffs for the first time in 12 years, and in the semifinal round for the first time, ever, in the team’s 20-year franchise history. Their games in the best-of-three series against Red Deer will all be held in the central Alberta city – but that doesn’t mean the Voyageurs’ hometown supporters can’t cheer them on.

Everyone is welcome to the Portage College gymnasium in Lac La Biche over the weekend to watch and cheer for the Voyageurs as they represent the northeastern Alberta college. The Portage College gymnasium will be decorated in Voyageur colours for the Friday and Saturday night watch parties, with games and activities for all ages. There will be raffles and draws, concession munchies … and community pride for everyone to enjoy.

Friday’s watch party will begin at 6:30 pm in the gymnasium for the 7 pm game. Saturday’s game time is 8 pm, so the gym will open up at 7:30 pm. Sunday’s game — if needed — will see the party moving from the gym to the McGrane Theatre at 4:30 pm for the 5 pm game.

More chances to wave & cheer

There’s also a meet-and-greet event scheduled in the Voyageur Grill at the Lac La Biche campus on Thursday at noon, giving supporters a chance to wish the players good luck. On Friday morning – at around 8:45 am – staff, students and community members are encouraged to line the sidewalk in front of the campus to cheer on the Voyageurs as their team bus heads down to Red Deer.

Voyageurs supporters are encouraged to bring their noisemakers, their Voyageurs shirts, hats, and banners … and their cheers for all the events.

The Portage College Book Store has lots of Voyageurs merch for fans looking to show their team pride! Check out their website, or stop by campus locations to get kitted-out.

Let’s show ’em how loud a College Town can be!
