About This Event
This session, presented by VAD Society, is designed to help participants better understand the Alberta Disability Assistance Program (ADAP) and how to navigate the changes with confidence.

As Alberta transitions to a dual system that includes both AISH and ADAP, many individuals are uncertain about eligibility, expectations, and how decisions are made. This session will break down the key differences between ADAP and AISH. (Eligibility and placement decisions can be complex and may depend on individual circumstances.)

Using plain language and practical examples, the session will focus on what matters most: better understanding your rights, responsibilities, and making informed decisions. Participants will learn about reporting requirements and responsibilities that may affect eligibility and benefits, steps to take if their situation changes, or options if they disagree with a decision.

The session will also highlight available supports—including employment, financial, and health benefits—and where to go for help, advocacy, or clarification. Time will be dedicated to addressing common questions and concerns, focusing on reducing confusion and helping participants navigate the transition with greater confidence.

By the end of the session, participants will:

• Have a clearer understanding of what ADAP is and how it differs from AISH
• Better understand rights, responsibilities, and available supports
• Feel more confident managing communication with government systems
• Be equipped with practical “what do I do next?” steps for real-life situations

This session is supportive, respectful, and participant-focused, encouraging questions and reinforcing that help is available.
