ABOUT THE POSITION
Portage College is actively seeking an Accounts Payable Clerk. This position is responsible for expense claims, general payables, cheque runs, VISA, GST reporting, accruals. The Accounts Payable Clerk ensures that policy and guidelines are adhered to as established by the College. Responsibilities include:
- Ensure invoices, expense claims, and visas have appropriate approvals, supporting documentation and account coding in compliance with College reporting.
- Perform monthly, quarterly and year end reconciliation of accounts payable subledger, prepaid and clearing accounts.
- Manage the setup of new Visa cards, process all card updates, and conduct orientation sessions for new cardholders.
- Collect, verify, and post accruals, ensuring they are accurate, reasonable, and supported by the necessary documentation.
- Prepare payment runs, including but not limited to issuing cheques and wire transfers.
- Perform monthly reconciliations of GST accounts to calculate and file GST rebate with CRA.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
- Certificate in Business or Accounting. Experience and other equivalencies may be considered.
- 1-3 years of experience in accounts payable, preferably within a public sector or educational institution.
- Experience with financial/accounting systems and enterprise resource planning software.
- Experience with high-volume data entry, record keeping, and accounting are assets.
- Excellent problem-solving skills to troubleshoot when information received is incomplete, inaccurate or contains errors.
- Strong computer skills, especially with Microsoft Excel.
- Experience or knowledge of Agresso Unit4 would be considered beneficial.
- Must be highly organized and have a strong attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and manage deadlines.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Successful applicant will be required to provide a current police information check.
