Some of the benefits of micro-credentials include flexible learning, digitally shareable credentials, and shorter program duration. Micro-credentials focus on specific work-applicable skills that can immediately be used in a work environment. Credit courses/programs are longer in length, more rigid in structure, and focus on general knowledge and skills that can be applied across a variety of work settings.

Anyone can access microcredentials. Micro-credentials are excellent learning opportunities for people who want to upskill to change jobs, employees who want to increase their skill within their current job, lifelong learners, and the person who want their competencies verified through a credential.

Sometimes. We are still working on integrating micro-credentials into the framework of our credential programs. Currently, the FLIP micro-credential is available for credit and is transferrable to Athabasca University.



A micro-credential badge is a blockchain digital credential. It is a secure link that gives you access to a tamper-proof and verifiable credential which houses information such as the issuing institution, date earned, and learning outcomes.

A course badge signifies completion of specific courses within a micro-credential. A program badge signifies the completion of an entire micro-credential.

Portage College will assign you a badge once you have completed all course and/or program requirements.

Your micro-credential badge can be posted to LinkedIn for employers and colleagues to see.
