ABOUT THE POSITION

The Budget Officer plays a critical role within the Finance department and the College, providing essential support during the institution’s Finance ERP upgrade. Reporting to the Finance Manager, this position collaborates closely with the Operations and Academic Budget Officers and the Financial Services Supervisor to ensure financial continuity and efficiency.

In addition to covering core Budget Office functions, this position will actively contribute to the Finance ERP upgrade initiative by evaluating existing processes, identifying operational efficiencies, and documenting financial workflows to support a smooth transition. Primary Responsibilities Include:

  • Provide support by assisting with financial planning, forecasting, and variance analysis during the ERP transition.
  • Act as a backup for core Budget Officers, ensuring continuity in financial reporting, budget monitoring, and stakeholder support.
  • Analyze financial data, identify trends, and provide insights to support decision-making.
  • Assist in documenting and standardizing processes to improve efficiency and knowledge transfer.
  • Identify and recommend operational efficiencies within processes to streamline financial workflows.
  • Collaborate with Finance and other departments to ensure a smooth transition to the new ERP system.
  • Support the development of training materials and process documentation for post-ERP implementation.
  • Support year-end financial activities and reporting requirements as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Degree or Diploma in Accounting, Finance or Business or a combination of education and experience equivalency.
  • Minimum three to four years of relevant or related experience in budgeting, accounting, and financial reporting.
  • Experience working in a post-secondary institution or public sector is an asset.
  • Strong proficiency with Microsoft Excel, advanced spreadsheets and formula experience is preferred.
  • Experience working in a post-secondary institution, public sector, or other complex organization is an asset.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical-thinking skills
  • Ability to work independently while effectively managing multiple priorities.
  • Successful applicant will be required to provide a current police information check.
