ABOUT THE POSITION

The Budget Officer plays a critical role within the Budget Office and Finance Department. This position works collaboratively with the Operations and Academic Budget Officers, in addition to the Finance Operations Supervisor, and reports directly to the Finance Manager. Key responsibilities include assisting in the preparation and analysis of the College’s annual budget, quarterly forecasts, and financial performance reviews. The Budget Officer will provide comprehensive support to Budget Officers and Expenditure Officers in the areas of analysis and reporting. A solid working knowledge of budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting is essential. Primary Responsibilities Include:

  • Collaborates with Operations & Academic Budget Officers to consolidate budget and forecast information, ensuring accurate and timely reporting.
  • Provides financial guidance to Expenditure Officers, supporting cost-effective resource utilization through comprehensive budget reporting and insightful variance analysis.
  • Conducts process evaluations and documentation to enhance operational efficiency and compliance.
  • Leads the distribution of Budget Office reports.
  • Oversees ERP attribution maintenance to ensure data integrity.
  • Processing of adjustment journal entries, including those required for quarter-end and year-end earnings.
  • Availability for evening and weekend work may be required during peak times.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Degree or Diploma in Accounting, Finance or Business or a combination of education and experience equivalency.
  • Minimum three to four years of relevant or related experience in budgeting, accounting, and financial reporting.
  • Strong problem solving and analytical skills.
  • Must be proficient with Microsoft office, particularly Excel, advanced spreadsheets and formula experience is preferred.
  • Strong skills in organization, data entry and customer service.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills are essential.
  • Knowledge or experience working with Unit 4 would be an asset.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and provide sound decision making.
  • Successful applicant will be required to provide a current police information check.
