ABOUT THE POSITION

Portage College in partnership with the County of St. Paul and the STEP Economic Development Alliance are actively looking for a CALP Newcomer Support to provide first point of contact services across the STEP region.

Primary responsibilities of this position will provide access to resources and services such as: 

  • Welcome Packages
  • Housing/accommodations
  • Transportation
  • Employment (Spousal/dependents)
  • Childcare
  • ESL/adult education and training
  • Healthcare
  • Government and Regulations
  • Food
  • School
  • Social connection, entertainment, and extra-curricular activities

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, punctuality, and professionalism.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Preference will be given to applicants with previous experience working with newcomers.
  • Applicants should have a congenial personality that is consistent and builds trust with immigrants and staff. 
  • Self-motivation to learn, to be flexible, and to be open to constructive feedback. 
  • A strong ability to network. 
  • Successful applicant will be required to provide a current vulnerable sector police information check.
