ABOUT THE POSITION

Portage College has an exciting opportunity for an IT Services Network and Systems Administrator to join our Information Technology (IT) team. In this role, you’ll configure, maintain, and manage local and wide area networks, internet connectivity, servers, and virtualization technologies with a strong emphasis on cybersecurity. You’ll work closely with the Senior Analyst to support system stability and ensure optimal performance. This position plays a key role in maintaining secure, efficient IT operations across the College. Responsibilities include:

  •  Support the design, installation, configuration, and maintenance of College servers, data centers, and virtual infrastructure.
  • Assist with the design and maintenance of Local and Wide Area Networks across the Corporate Centre, Regional Centers, and Community Campuses.
  • Proactively monitoring security events, investigate threats, and enforce security policies to protect systems from emerging risks.
  • Contribute to the operation and testing of disaster recovery, cybersecurity protocols, and protection of College data and infrastructure.
  • Provide Tier 2 support to systems analysts within the department.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Diploma or university degree in Information Technology or a related field, with 5–7 years of recent and relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Extensive knowledge of server and desktop operating systems (Windows Server, Linux) and virtualization technologies (VMware, Hyper-V).
  • Advanced experience in Active Directory administration and cybersecurity incident response, including threat detection, containment, eradication, and recovery.
  • Proficient with tools and platforms such as Wireshark, and cloud services; experienced with routers, switches, and firewalls.
  • Skilled in storage systems (SAN/NAS), backup strategies, and disaster recovery planning.
  • Experienced with scripting languages (PowerShell, Bash, Python) to automate tasks and enhance efficiency.
  • Strong communication, documentation, and problem-solving skills; organized and capable of managing multiple priorities.
  • Demonstrated ability to ability to lead or collaborate effectively within a team and contribute to a positive work environment.
  • Willingness to travel between campuses and work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.
  • The successful applicant will be required to submit a police information check that meets with the satisfaction of the College.
