ABOUT THE POSITION

Portage College is thrilled to announce a fantastic opportunity for an enthusiastic and driven instructor to join our Social Work department and help launch a new Addictions Counselling program. The Instructor of Addictions Counselling will play a key role in creating a dynamic and engaging learning experience for students by focusing on student-centered teaching methods.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Prepare lessons and materials and deliver instruction in the program area.
  • Develop courses and curriculum in assigned courses and update as appropriate.
  • Manage and evaluate student progress.
  • Classroom and distance education instruction.
  • Prepare and delivery of subjects.
  • Assist with curriculum development and/or revision.
  • Develop exams, quizzes and other evaluation material for students.
  • Assist in organizing and supervising student practicums.
  • Assist in managing and evaluating student progress in the program.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Master’s degree in Social Work in addition to several years’ experience in field of addictions counselling.
  • Experience working with rural, northern and Indigenous communities will be considered a definite asset.
  • Current registration with the Alberta College of Social Workers (ACSW).
  • Knowledge of Indigenous culture and previous experience working in Indigenous communities would be considered a definite asset as the program has related coursework.
  • Adult teaching/tutoring experience would be considered beneficial.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Knowledge or experience with Moodle or other Learning Management System would be an asset.
  • Strong computer skills, especially with MS Office, is essential.
  • Some travel and a flexible schedule is required for organizing and supervising practicum visits.
  • Successful applicant will be required to provide a current police information check.
