ABOUT THE POSITION
Portage College is actively highly motivated and engaged Heavy Equipment Technician to join our team of instructors in the Heavy Equipment Technician (HET) program. Some of the responsibilities include:
- Deliver engaging theory and hands-on lab instruction to students in the HET program.
- Develop learning materials and assessments tailored for adult learners which will include the use of various Microsoft Office programs, following college and program guidelines.
- Support student success by providing timely feedback and evaluations.
- Promote and enforce safety protocols in both classroom and lab settings, in line with Alberta’s Occupational Health and Safety Act.
- Foster an inclusive and supportive learning environment where everyone feels valued.
- Continuously improve instructional practices to enhance student learning.
- Stay connected with industry professionals and regulatory bodies to ensure our program meets industry standards and best practices.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
- Heavy Equipment Technician Journeyperson certification; Red Seal preferred.
- Extensive experience maintaining, repairing, and overhauling heavy vehicles, industrial heavy equipment, and commercial transport equipment.
- Adult instruction or tutoring experience will be considered an asset.
- Strong communication, administrative, and organizational skills, with the ability to work independently and with minimal supervision.
- Knowledge of or experience with Moodle or other Learning Management Systems (LMS) would be an asset.
- Proficient computer skills, especially with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and other MS Office applications.
- The successful applicant will be required to provide a current police information check and driver’s abstract.
