ABOUT THE POSITION

Portage College has an exciting opportunity for a highly experienced paramedic to join the College’s Faculty of Paramedicine as a full-time term Paramedicine Instructor. Some of the responsibilities include:

  •  Classroom and distance instruction at the BLS and ALS levels.
  • Preparation and delivery of subjects.
  • Assist with curriculum development and/or revision.
  • Assist with preparation of internal and external audits.
  • Develop exams, quizzes and other evaluation material for students.
  • Manage and evaluate student progress in the program.
  • Assist in organizing and supervising student practicums.
  • Monitor and manage supplies and equipment, including inventory, organization, and cleaning, for all Paramedicine program faculty.
  • Mentor and orient sessional (lab) instructors for lab and program delivery.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Advanced Care Paramedic diploma. An Allied Health diploma or RN degree, with an undergraduate degree in science, nursing, or an allied health profession, and a Master’s Degree in health, education, or other relevant discipline with several years of experience working in the health sector will also be considered.
  • If applying with an Advanced Care Paramedic diploma, current unrestricted registration in good standing as an Advanced Care Paramedic with the Alberta College of Paramedics.
  • Preference will be given to applicants with BLS, ACLS, PALS, ITLS, and NRP certification (instructor status is an asset).
  • Thorough skills and knowledge of paramedicine.
  • Adult teaching/tutoring experience would be considered beneficial.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills, with the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Effective interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate in a team environment.
  • Sensitivity to and understanding of the diversity in our learner population.
  • Knowledge or experience with Moodle or other Learning Management Systems is an asset.
  • Strong computer skills, particularly with MS Office, are essential.
  • Successful applicant will be required to provide a current criminal record check.
