ABOUT THE POSITION
The Student Learning Services (SLS) centre provides individualized academic support services to assist students in achieving academic and personal success. The SLS team works with the student and instructor to create an accessible and supportive learning environment. Join the team assisting students in meeting their academic potential. Responsibilities include:
- Administrative support to Supervisor of Student Learning Services.
- Administer SLS intake interview and assess student need. Make referrals as needed.
- Implement and assess lesson plan for regular student appointments.
- Identify possible barriers that students are experiencing resulting in minimal academic progress or progress within the SLS programs.
- Monitor student progress, discuss student progress with the student and appropriate parties involved, and adapt the program to student need, while implementing the outlined goals and objectives of the Individual Education Plan (IEP) as necessary.
- Due to the diversity of our student clientele, the Learning Assistant may be required to aid students outside of regular work hours.
- Clarify any questions if possible; refer other questions to Supervisor, Student Learning Services
- Monitor student use of his/her special provisions.
- Research innovative programs/tools/resources to assist students as needed to keep both the student well informed and the SLS current and up to date with the newest technology available.
- Develop and present various workshops to small and large student groups on various topics, including learning styles and memory techniques.
- Work effectively and collaboratively within the SLS team including the SLS staff at the St Paul and Cold Lake campuses.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor of Education or Educational Assistant diploma/certificate. Equivalence may be considered
- Experience working with individuals with exceptionalities (neurodivergent learners) and implementing individual educational plans would be considered an asset.
- Must be proficient with technology, especially MS Office and Teams.
- Strong skills in organization, data entry and customer service.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills are essential.
- Knowledge or experience working with Moodle would be an asset.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and provide sound decision making.
- Successful applicant will be required to provide a current police information check.
