ABOUT THE POSITION

Portage College has an exciting opportunity for a detail-orientated Library Support Specialist to work with the College’s Library Service’s team. In this role, you will be the go-to person for our students, helping them navigate resources and succeed in their studies. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Overseeing circulation and maintaining the St. Paul collection and interlibrary loan requests.
  • Acting as a key resource for students, providing assistance with basic reference inquiries, research and citation skills, and technology troubleshooting.
  • Serving as the primary system administrator and contact for troubleshooting the library's automated system.
  • Updating and maintaining the library's website and other online content.
  • Handling bookstore rental items for the St. Paul campus.
  • Serving as a key liaison with the online library team, contributing to a unified and comprehensive support system for all library users.

 QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • A diploma in Library and Information Technology; Equivalencies in a relevant field of study, an undergraduate degree and/or library experience may be considered.
  • A minimum of one-year public service experience in an automated library environment and/or academic institution is preferred.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and ability to be an effective team member.
  • Strong skills in organization, customer service, data entry, chat and telephone etiquette.
  • Must be self-directed and able to prioritize workload with little or no supervision.
  • Demonstrated teamwork and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficient with computers, especially MS Office.
  • Successful applicant will be required to provide a current police information check.
