ABOUT THE POSITION

Portage College has an exciting new opportunity for a Senior Audio Visual Technician. The Senior Audio Visual Technician leads, prepares and executes Corporate events, College community initiatives, partner engagements and athletics events. This role ensures flawless executed events through accurate and timely setup, operation, and breakdown of audiovisual equipment and also creates internal and external video, media as needed. A creative person, capable of new ideas and seeing them through to fruition. The incumbent will identify trends and new technologies to implement them into videos and promotional materials as needed. Able to work efficiently with individuals and groups on training and to provide technical support for all audio/video production stages. Responsibilities include:

  • Event Management: Oversee media and technical operations for campus events, including cultural days and Voyageurs athletic games. Stream and record events, operate AV equipment, and manage production in theatres, cultural spaces, gyms, and more.
  • Media Support: Manage the Production Studio, including scheduling, inventory, and staff training. Make equipment recommendations, implement strategies, and troubleshoot technical issues. Provide media training and ensure smooth operation of studio equipment.
  • Communication: Manage video production beyond corporate and athletic events. Manage the college’s YouTube channel and handle video monetization. Oversee media repository management and serve as a backup photographer for campus and corporate events.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • A degree or diploma in communications, television, film, radio, computer sciences, or information technology.
  • Two years of communications and technical experience with a preference in new media skills and video production.
  • Advanced skills and experience in video production, editing programs, and equipment/software use.
  • Successful candidate must have knowledge of Media storage and management knowledge.
  • Experience in social media platforms and streaming technologies.
  • Successful candidate must hold Class 5 driver’s license.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work under strict deadlines and display keen problem-solving skills.
  • Must be a creative thinker, collaborative team member, and independent worker.
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends.
  • Successful candidate will be required to provide a current police information check.
