Class 1 Learning Pathway (Formerly MELT 1)

The Class-1 Learning Pathway consists of three core learning programs: Entry, Core, and Competence. You can learn more about the core learning programs here.

Class 1 curriculum includes:

  • Safety practices
  • Vehicle and Load Documentation
  • Acts, Rules and Regulations
  • Driver Training - Practical Application

Our Services:

  • New Equipment: Training in one of our three Kenworth T-880 tractors and trailers. All are 2024 and newer.
  • In-Depth Training Programs: Extensive classroom and in-vehicle training covering all aspects of professional driving.

  • Flexible Scheduling: Convenient training schedules to fit your lifestyle and commitments.
  • Safety-Focused Curriculum: Emphasis on road safety, defensive driving techniques, and incident response.
  • Farm-Restricted Licenses: Special training for obtaining farm-restricted Class-1 licenses.
  • Ongoing Support: Continuous assistance and refresher courses to keep your skills sharp.

Admission Requirements:

  • 18 years of age.
  • Current Class 5 driver's license, no GDL restrictions.
  • Physically fit - driver's medical completed by a physician.

Cost:

  • Entry Level Cost: $700.00
  • Core Learning Cost: $6800.00
  • Competence Building: $2500.00 (Max)

TOTAL: $10,000.00 plus additional costs, listed below.

Students will incur the following expenses, which are not covered in the tuition cost of training.

  • Entry Level Fee: $250.00
  • Written Exam: $17.00                                        
  • Driver’s Abstract: $15.00
  • License Class Change: $28.00
  • Practical Road Test (Examiner Fee): $217.00
  • Driver Medical: $150.00
  • Airbrakes Written Exam: $17.00*

*If a student can prove current certification in Airbrakes, they can be exempted from this course, otherwise it is a compulsory course. Prior to writing Class 1 exam ensure all outstanding fines at Registries are paid. NOTE: If extra drive hours are required the cost is $150/hr.
