About the Event:

This in-person workshop will explore the issue of systemic racism across Canada, focusing on its roots and its impacts on Indigenous communities. Together, we will examine:

  • The roots of systemic racism and its effects.
  • The Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s Calls to Action.
  • Steps individuals and organizations can take to reconcile damaged relationships and become allies.

This session is designed to provide insight and actionable steps toward building a more equitable and respectful society.

Facilitator Bio

Rocky Ward is a proud member of the Métis Nation of Alberta, born in High Prairie and raised in the Lac La Biche area. Her Spirit name is "Leader of the Birds."

Rocky has been with Native Counselling Services of Alberta for 28 years and currently serves as a Manager, Trainer, and Facilitator for the organization. A dedicated social worker, she has extensive experience supporting Indigenous communities and promoting reconciliation.

Rocky resides in Edmonton, where she enjoys spending time with her three adult children, six grandchildren, and tending to her garden during the summer.
