  • Must be out of high school for a minimum of three years before starting a high school equivalency program
  • Must have completed a high school equivalency program and obtained a minimum average of 80% in courses required for entry into a post-secondary program
  • Provide an official transcript of high school equivalency program taken
  • Submit a nomination letter from the institution where high school equivalency program was completed. Including name and signature of nominating official.

  • Minimum 70% in all courses

  • Must have the highest academic achievement in their program upon completion. Minimum 3.3 GPA or 80%
  • In the event of a tie, the award will be split
  • Registered as a full-time student in fall and winter semesters in a career or Academics for Careers and Education (upgrading) program

Value: Bronze medallion and $3,500

Criteria:

  • Successful completion of a two-year diploma program as a full-time student
  • Obtain the highest academic standing in a post-secondary diploma program
  • Minimum grade point average (GPA) of 3.0

Method of application: Selected and confirmed by the Registrar’s office

Criteria:

  • Must be a Canadian citizen and Alberta resident
  • Be registered full time in the second or subsequent year of an undergraduate program
  • Have achieved a minimum GPA of 3.2 based on an 80% course load in the previous fall and winter term

Students can take this award to another institution in Alberta, but they cannot take it outside Alberta.

Students cannot receive both the Jason Lang Scholarship and the Louise McKinney Scholarship.

  • Must be in satisfactory academic standing as confirmed by program area

Louise McKinney Scholarships are reserved for the top 2 students entering their second or subsequent year of a full-time program.

Method of application: Verified by Registrar’s office; form for the Alberta Scholarship Fund provided to qualifying students

  • Registered in a program full time
  • Progress from academic upgrading or a career program and enrolled in second year in the following fall semester
  • Demonstrate academic achievement, leadership skills and career goal accomplishments

  • Awarded to a full-time student who has significantly enhanced the quality of fellow students’ lives during the past academic year
  • A brief description on how the student contributed to the betterment of others will need to be submitted with the nomination form.

Number available: 2 (1 for a student in Academics for Careers and Education (upgrading) program and 1 for a student in a career program)

Criteria:

  • Must have demonstrated strong commitment to their studies despite facing learning barriers
  • Display personal and academic growth in both academic and Student Learning Services programs
  • Must have acceptable attendance and progress as confirmed by program area

Available once per student per program of study.

Criteria:

  • Registered full-time in a program of 16 weeks or longer in fall and/or winter
  • Achieve acceptable attendance as confirmed by program area and not have been placed on probation during current semester and/or in an academic year
  • Must meet graduation/ progression requirements
  • Displays co-operative and helpful behaviors
  • Participated in classroom and group activities
  • Shows initiative
  • Practices safe work habits during class or while on practicum
  • Displays quality of work
  • Shows leadership
  • Displays positive attitude and contributes to a positive college atmosphere
  • Perseveres through difficult circumstances
  • Accepts responsibility for own actions

Criteria:

  • Only GPA above 3.0 will be considered (GPA heavily weighted)
  • Registered as a full-time student in a program at Portage College
  • A member of the College athletics team competing in ACAC events
  • Student-Athlete in good standing
  • Demonstrate leadership qualities
  • Demonstrate outstanding commitment to their sport and team

As a member of the Voyageurs Athletics teams, you will be an ambassador of Portage College.  Voyageurs’ student-athletes are incredibly involved in our communities and looked at by our youth as mentors and role models.

This award goes to a student-athlete who exemplifies the best qualities of a Voyageurs Athlete.  He or she is kind, generous and puts others before themselves.  They are willing to help in whatever is asked of them.

Criteria:

  • Must be a student-athlete registered full-time in both fall and winter semesters.
  • Must have a minimum 2.0 GPA and in good academic standing as confirmed by program area.
  • Must be nominated for the award by a Portage College staff, community member or peer.

Nominated: Nominations reviewed and selected by the Athletics Department
