Protocols

Protocols are rules or procedures used to regulate specific occasions. Events like round dances, pipe ceremonies, and sunrise ceremonies all have their own cultural protocols. Maintaining them is very important to us. Knowing and understanding these protocols is essential in order to participate in a respectful way.

This document contains protocols for Indigenous events held at Portage College:

Indigenous Protocols

We acknowledge that Portage College’s service region is on the traditional lands of First Nation Peoples, the owners of Treaty 6, 8 and 10, which are also homelands to the Métis people. We honour the history and culture of all people who first lived and gathered in these lands.
