January 30, 2024

Portage College and the Town of Bonnyville are delighted to unveil a transformative partnership aimed at enhancing educational opportunities for Town employees and elected officials. The collaboration solidified through a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) marks a significant step towards fostering continuous learning and skill development within the community.

Under this agreement, Portage College will extend micro-credential training to Town employees and elected officials, providing them with a valuable opportunity for professional growth. Commencing on January 1, 2024, and extending until December 31, 2027, the partnership allows enrollment in one free course annually, selected from a diverse range of micro-credentials, spanning from permaculture to business courses.

President Nancy Broadbent expressed her gratitude, stating, "Portage College is truly honoured to collaborate with the Town of Bonnyville in this forward-thinking initiative. Our shared commitment to lifelong learning and community development is at the core of this partnership, and we are excited about the positive impact it will have on individuals and the region as a whole."

In the spirit of mutual growth, the MOU outlines annual reviews to ensure the continued benefit of both parties. Additionally, President Nancy Broadbent and Mayor Elisa Brosseau expressed their commitment to exploring further opportunities for collaboration in promotional, economic development, and training initiatives within Bonnyville.

Town of Bonnyville Mayor Elisa Brosseau remarked, "This partnership is a testament to the Town of Bonnyville's dedication to supporting post-secondary education and fostering a culture of lifelong learning. Council recognizes the important role Portage College plays in delivering education in the North East, and we are proud to contribute to the development of our community and empower our employees through access to quality education."

Both Portage College and the Town of Bonnyville are excited about the possibilities that this partnership unlocks for the residents of Bonnyville and look forward to a fruitful collaboration that will shape the educational landscape of the region.
