Minister of Advanced Education to Consult with Portage College Groups
Portage College has been planning for a day of consultation with Minister of Advanced Education, Marlin Robert Schmidt. Representatives from Faculty Association, Students' Association, Staff Association, Excluded Group, the President and Board Chair as well as the Executive Committee will all have an opportunity to consult with the Minister on October 21st.
Minister Schmidt will be attending with his Chief of Staff, Emily-Anne Paul as well as Gilbert Perras, Executive Director of Operations from Advanced Education. The meetings are intended to be casual meet and greet discussions so that Minister Schmidt can meet with the various groups to get to know them and their perspectives on matters of mutual interest.
"We know that access to high-quality education and training is the cornerstone of lifelong success in a changing economy. Our government just announced new support for unemployed apprentices to continue their technical training, and we have also recently launched consultations on post-secondary tuition and institution funding models in order to keep education accessible and affordable for Albertans. I'm pleased to be here at Portage College to discuss these important initiatives," says Marlin Schmidt, Minster of Advanced Education.
"The Students' Association is eager to have the opportunity to meet with the Minister of Advanced Education and ministry staff," says Medena Moghrabi, General Manager Students' Association of Portage College. "It is a great experience for students themselves to engage with members of government to share perspectives about the landscape in which they invest in learning within Alberta."
"We appreciate the opportunity to be called upon by the Minister for informal consultations," says Dr. Trent Keough, President & CEO of Portage College. "We are grateful to provide services to our many communities. We are and have always been student focused."
