June 8, 2023

Lac La Biche, AB - June 5, 2023 - Portage College is pleased to announce the reappointment of Randolph Benson as Chair of the Board of Governors (BOG). Benson has been serving in this role since 2017 and has presided over a period of unprecedented enrolment growth and program expansion in the College’s history.

"Randy has provided excellent strategic leadership for the Board and the College. The continuity will be extremely beneficial as the College is experiencing tremendous growth in both student numbers and programs," said Nancy Broadbent, Portage College President and CEO.

Benson's appointment is for an additional term, effective July 22, 2023 and expiring on July 21, 2026. Portage College is confident that his expertise and knowledge of the College and Northeastern Alberta will provide the necessary oversight to help Portage continue to grow while meeting the needs of students.

The recruitment and selection process for the BOG Chair position is overseen by Advanced Education, with recommendations provided by the Portage College BOG. The screening process for applications follows specific criteria, and interviews are conducted by Advanced Education before the Minister of Advanced Education makes recommendations to the Lieutenant Governor or the provincial Administrator for BOG members' appointment.

“We’d like to extend our gratitude to the Minister of Advanced Education, Demetrios Nicolaides, for his continued support, and to the members of the Portage College BOG for their guidance in the reappointment process,” said Broadbent. “I know that the ministry, our employees, our students and our communities join me in congratulating Randy on his well-deserved reappointment.”
