Pinning Ceremony

The pinning ceremony is a special ceremony for the nursing community. It isn’t just a nursing tradition, it's a symbol of the nursing students’ hard work and dedication towards their coursework and clinicals. The pinning ceremony is offered to nursing students who have completed their diploma in practical nursing to become a licensed practical nurse (LPN).

Campus Parking
There is no fee and no reserved parking at Portage College, you may park in the front and back of the campus. We suggest carpooling if possible.

Time to Arrive
Practical Nurse students will need to be assembled before 8:45 a.m. dressed in white scrubs for the Pinning Ceremony in McGrane Theatre.

Graduands arrive on campus between:

  • 8:00 - 9:00 a.m. for the morning ceremony
  • 12:45 - 1:45 p.m. for the afternoon ceremony

All guests must be seated by 8:45 a.m. in McGrane Theatre. Guests arriving after 9:00 a.m. must wait to be seated when the processional has finished and all Graduands are seated. 

Attire
As this is a special day to honour convocating students, we suggest Guests attending the ceremony wear daytime formal attire.

Photographs
Professional photography services will be available for a fee in the Racquetball Court. The fee must be paid up front.

An area will also be set up in Room 216 for Graduands to take personal photographs free of charge.

Guests are welcome to take photographs throughout the ceremony, as long as it does not interfere with the processional or recessional. Please be considerate of others when taking photographs.
