DIEN Transition to Practice 

Begin your transition into becoming a Practicing Nurse in Alberta with this new course! Upon completion of the Online theory portion as well as the 8 days of face-to-face lab instruction, students will be awarded a certificate highlighting their accomplishment in this course, which can be presented to their employer. This program has been developed in close partnership with Alberta Health Services(AHS) as a way to create an educational experience for Domestic, Internationally Educated Nurses(DIEN) to quickly gain the necessary skills to become practicing nurses in Canada.

Course Description: This course is meticulously crafted to cultivate proficiency and instill confidence in executing vital psychomotor skills indispensable for nursing practice in Canada at an entry-to-practice level. It encompasses hands-on training under the guidance of seasoned mentors and educators. Encompassing a spectrum of essential skills, the curriculum spans patient assessment, wound care, infection control, medication administration, and proficiency in utilizing diverse medical equipment. Beyond skill acquisition, the course is designed to furnish students with the requisite tools for delivering patient-centered care and adeptly managing patient care plans.

Cost: $1,500

Delivery: Two weeks of online theory, delivered asynchronously. Plus 8 days of face-to-face labs are to be delivered in December after successful completion of the online theory, at our St. Paul Campus. 

The online theory portion must be completed by December 6, 2024. Delivery dates for the Labs are December 10-13 and December 16-19.

Certification: Students will be issued a Portage College Continuing Education Certificate of completion after theory and labs are successfully completed.

*Must be a licensed Domestic Internationally Educated Nurse(DIEN) from the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta(CRNA) to enter.  Preference will be given to students with a referral letter from Alberta Health Services, but a referral is not required to take this course.
