Join us to learn about the Wahkohtowin Law and Governance Lodge, a research unit at the University of Alberta dedicated to supporting Indigenous communities in preserving and developing their legal traditions.
Presented by Casey Caines and Gavin Cazon-Wilkes, this session will:
✅ Explain the Wahkohtowin Lodge’s mission to help communities articulate and implement their own laws.
✅ Highlight the Lodge’s role in addressing the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s Call to Action #50, which calls for the creation of Indigenous Law Institutes.
✅ Explore the importance of Indigenous legal traditions in fostering self-determination and strengthening communities.
✅ Share how the Lodge gathers and shares knowledge to support meaningful change.
This session is for educators, community leaders, and anyone interested in learning more about Indigenous legal systems and governance.
