2022 Lieutenant Governor of Alberta Arts Awards

For the first time ever, two of Alberta’s most prestigious arts celebrations are happening together. Portage College and Lac La Biche County will host the Lieutenant Governor of Alberta 2021 Distinguished Artist and 2022 Emerging Artist Awards.

It is fitting for Lac La Biche Region to witness and play host to a historic occasion. Home to Indigenous peoples since time immemorial, home to a vital fur trade route, home to many firsts in Alberta’s history, home to dozens of cultures from around the globe, Lac La Biche Region has a story like no other. At the core of that story is the Northern Divide, a height of land dividing the continent, so the rain that falls in Lac La Biche Region may one day reach the sea at points more than 2,200 kilometres apart. The Northern Divide has shaped the lifestyles and livelihoods of thousands – a dividing line, but also a great unifying force.

This latest chapter in Lac La Biche Region’s story will not be possible without the help of our partners and supporters. Every contribution is one more brushstroke in a fantastic painting, one more note in a stirring composition, one more motion in a great dance, one more chisel in a masterful sculpture.
