In 2016-17 we are serving 9 students in this program at the Cold Lake campus with the Cenovus sponsored full time instructor. The College has been generously supported by Cenovus to operate this program since 2009. Over the years more than 130 students have graduated from the program at the Cold Lake Campus.
Given the prolonged downturn in the oil and gas industry, which has resulted in significant cost and workforce reductions at Cenovus over the past two years, the company is no longer able to fund this position beyond the current academic year. However, Cenovus has generously donated $20,000 in scholarship funds for future Cold Lake students.
Given budget challenges at the College we are unable to self-fund the 4th Class Power Engineering instructional position at our Cold Lake campus.
The College will continue to provide the 4th Class Power Engineering program at the Lac La Biche Campus. The demand for the program by students has softened significantly in the current academic year as a result of the downturn in the prospective jobs therefore we anticipate that we would be able to accommodate students from the Cold Lake Campus who are willing to relocate for schooling.
