Common Safety Orientation (CSO)

Common Safety Orientation (CSO) is a recognized industry standard course designed for new workers in the energy industry. It provides a consistent approach to safe work practices and aims to eliminate the need for redundant general orientation training.

CSO key points:

  • Target Audience: New workers in the energy sector.
  • Content: The course introduces safe work practices and incorporates Energy Safety Canada's 10 Life Saving Rules, which address the most at-risk behaviours.
  • Format: It's a two-hour online course, making it accessible and convenient for workers.
  • Certification: There is no recertification requirement for this course (in other words CSO certification does not expire).
  • Objective: To reduce duplicate training and support seamless movement of workers between sites.

The Course fee is $150.00 and it is a 1/2 day training.

We acknowledge that Portage College’s service region is on the traditional lands of First Nation Peoples, the owners of Treaty 6, 8 and 10, which are also homelands to the Métis people. We honour the history and culture of all people who first lived and gathered in these lands.
